Interfering substance
Interference level Metals Some metals, especially copper, catalyze the oxidation of sulfite to sulfate. Immediately add TK - 14 ::: RXSOL-62-5503-003 powder for each liter of sample during sample collection to prevent the interference.
Nitrite Reacts with sulfite and causes low results.
Organic compounds Oxidizable organic compounds can cause high results.
Oxidizable compounds Cause high results.
Sulfide Causes high results.
Samples must be analyzed immediately after collection and cannot be preserved for later analysis.
Let the sample temperature decrease to 50 °C (122 °F) or less before analysis.
Sulfite reacts quickly with oxygen in the air. Shaking or swirling the sample causes low results. Prevent agitation of the sample during the procedure.
Review safety chemical handling procedure. Use the recommended personal protective equipment. Dispose of reacted solutions according to local, state and federal regulations. Follow the environmental safety, health safety staff for your facility and/or local regulatory agencies for further disposal information.

Avoid contact with EYE / Hand and other CHEMICALS and Gases.
For determination of Hydroxide alkalinity only, barium chloride is added prior to titration to precipitate the carbonate ions. Titration is then taken only to the phenolphthalein end point. A pH meter may be used instead of the indicators to determine the end points of the titration.

Toxic effects of Hydrazine ( which is collected in sample ) is a severe skin and mucous membrane irritant in humans; in animals.In humans, the vapor is immediately irritating to the nose and throat and causes dizziness and nausea; itching, burning, and swelling of the eyes develop over a period of several hours. Severe exposures of the eyes to the vapors causes temporary blindness lasting for about 24 hours. Recurrent exposure to hydrazine hydrate has been reported to cause contact dermatitis of the hands without systemic intoxication. In humans, hydrazine is absorbed through the skin, by inhalation, and orally; systemic effects include weight loss, weakness, vomiting, excited behavior, and convulsions; the chief histologic findings are fatty degeneration of the liver and nephritis.
