Tank & Hold Cleaning
This small group holds the bulk commodity items used in hold washing: concentrated hydrochloric acid (50-litre packs) for descaling and rust-bloom removal, and TPOL GP, a general-purpose neutral detergent in 25-litre packs for the final fresh-water wash. Both are consumed in volume on bulk carriers, so they are stocked at the port warehouses. For formulated hold cleaners — coal, cement, petcoke and copper-concentrate removers, foaming brighteners and inhibited acids — see the Ship Hold Cleaner category.
Plain acid is cheaper but attacks bare steel and coatings; inhibited products such as Cement Remover RX Hold contain corrosion inhibitors and are safer on hold coatings.
