HEXA METHYL PHOSPHORIC ACID TRIIAMIDE HMPA

Hexamethylphosphoramide — HMPA, hexamethylphosphoric triamide, [(CH3)2N]3PO — is a colourless, high-boiling, strongly polar aprotic liquid used in organic synthesis as a solvent and as a ligand that accelerates organolithium, enolate alkylation, Wittig and SN2 reactions by solvating the metal cation. It is also a polymer and gas-absorption solvent and a UV stabiliser in PVC. Because HMPA is a confirmed animal carcinogen, RXSOL supplies it only to laboratories and industrial research users with the handling requirements on the MSDS — closed systems, fume hood, gloves. Pack sizes 100 ml to 2.5 L; larger quantities on request.

Frequently asked questions

Where to buy HMPA in India?

From RXSOL, Navi Mumbai, to qualified laboratory buyers; export to Canada, the UAE and Oman on request.

What does HMPA do in a reaction?

It coordinates lithium and other cations, breaking up aggregates and making enolates and organolithiums more reactive and less selective toward O- versus C-alkylation.

Are there safer substitutes?

DMPU and NMP are often used as less hazardous alternatives; ask if your procedure allows substitution.
